High-stakes battle in Haryana Assembly Election: BJP vs Congress, AAP and JJP also in the race

Haryana is ready for a high-stakes election as 2.03 crore voters will cast their votes on Saturday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming for its third term in power, while the Congress hopes to make a comeback. Regional parties like Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also in the race. Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will compete as well.

BJP faces tough battle

The BJP is looking to win the Haryana assembly elections for the third time. In 2014, they gained power for the first time, and in 2019, they formed a coalition with JJP. However, in 2024, the BJP-JJP alliance ended, and Nayab Singh Saini replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister. BJP faces a challenge of overcoming anti-incumbency after being in power for 10 years.

Congress hopes for a comeback

The Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, is pushing hard with promises like a caste survey and financial help for women. Their strong showing in the recent Lok Sabha elections gives them hope for success in Haryana. Meanwhile, AAP and JJP are also trying to secure enough seats to influence the outcome. Voting will take place across 20,632 booths with 1,031 candidates, including 101 women.
